Tarrastra Adventure 70

Caelesti's notes

The five talked about what they learned. They corralled another pawn to find out more. The party wanted to know the end-game conditions: small games were like duels and could be "to the death"; large games were like wars. The party also wanted to know if it were considered "cheating" to use a power that was not a declared talent. They were told that by wearing the garb of a gamesman, they were declaring that they had no additional talents. Caelesti demonstrated a Moving talent and told of a Beguiling talent. Yoshi suggested that she remove her Armiger outfit, which she did promptly. Yoshi was concerned about what the king would say if the party's gamesmen stopped wearing their gamesmen outfits. Caelesti said she would simply explain that they were mislabeled and didn't want to appear as cheaters.

The next morning the party left the Dragon's Fire Purlieu with the King's entourage. The King seemed to enjoy talking to Caelesti. Three days later the entourage arrived in Leamer. The town was famous for nuts and sausage groles, sausages made from giant worms. The innkeeper got the party a private tour of a grole farm.

When the party returned, they found out that the king had gone off on his own. Later that day, the king returned, but appeared to some to look ill. Carric voiced his concerns to the king about his health. The king claimed to be OK. Once the king moved on, Mavis told the party that it wasn't the king; Yoshi agreed. Not knowing if the imposter was there by the king's design or his adversaries', the party decided to do nothing but be wary.

Come nightfall, Carric thought that he could scry for the real king the next day. He mentioned that something from the real king would improve his chances. Carric later turned into an owl, swooped into the sleeping imposter's room, and snatched his hairbrush. Nessey, meanwhile, convinced another pawn to let her wash the king's clothes, allowing her to "borrow" something.

During the night, Yoshi has a "significant" dream. In the morning, Yoshi said that king was replaced against the king's will. Nessey produced the king's underwear, and Carric the king's hairbrush.

At noon, Carric recovered his spells, picking up up Scry. Carric cast it on a natural pool and successfully scryed the king. He saw the king lying unconscious in a gypsy wagon with his hands tied. Carric sent out Tan Kuran to look for wagons.

While Tan Kuran searched, the party sought out the dragons. Nessey struck up a conversation. She convinced them to be wary of Shifters, not that the king was replaced by one. The dragons spoke to Carric. Carric convinced them that a Shifter is impersonating the king.

Nessey's notes

Nessey: King's eyes gleam with intelligence and humor.
Nessey: We all have a wonderful dinner in our separate areas.
Nessey: Our friends call for me and Yoshi.
Nessey: We compare notes.
Nessey: I tell them the pawns are disenfranchised and need to be liberated.
Nessey: I tell about how when the Gamesters use magic, it gets very, very cold and the poor pawns freeze to death.
Nessey: Mavis wants to avoid playing games ourselves
Nessey: Caelesti is proud of her new outfit.
Nessey: Mavis says she might be falsely pegged. She worries about being in over her head.
Nessey: Mavis says Carric was useless about Xammer, even though it was his quest.
Nessey: Carric only said he was following Brianna.
Nessey: Carric says it is part truth, after all.
Nessey: Caelesti is curious about games.
Nessey: Mavis says there are games of just two at any time.
Nessey: Nessey - if you win a game - what do you get?
Nessey: Yoshi - yes, what are the victory conditions?
Nessey: Yoshi - I hope it is not to the death.
Carric: Amok Time
Nessey: Anyway. So.
Nessey: Mavis - I don't even know what our roles are supposed to be.
Nessey: Nessey - what is Demon?
Nessey: I think the pawns explained that they least like to be around Demons because Demons know what you are thinking.
Nessey: Shifters are shifty, you never who they really are cause they can look like all different things.
Nessey: Armagers fight in the air, while flying.
Nessey: Mavis - no wonder they thought you should have weapons, Caelesti.
Nessey: Mavis says there are other things that can fly and do other things - thousands of names.
Nessey: Yoshi - once you have been labeled, perhaps you will be in violation of the rules if you can do stuff outside that role.
Nessey: We need to find out in case we get into trouble.
Nessey: Thre might be a punishment if one if falsely labeled.
Nessey: Nessey - Well, we don't need to stick around, let's go to Xammer.
Nessey: Mavis says the King invited us to accompany him to Reevesbridge.
Nessey: Caelesti - and you don't just blow off the King.
Nessey: Carric - let's ask about Yoshi's concerns.
Nessey: Carric - let's call a pawn and question him.
Nessey: Carric sends "us pawns" to get "more pawns."
Nessey: Caelesti wants to bathe.
Nessey: Yoshi says he will order a tub for 5.
Nessey: Mavis doesn't like that idea.
Nessey: Carric will bathe with Mavis, Caelesti, Nessey.
Nessey: Yoshi wants to bathe alone.
Nessey: Nessey - well, if group bathing is the thing to do here, then I guess that's what we have to do.
Nessey: Nessey - I will bathe with Caelesti.
Nessey: Carric - the rules are, has to be 3 in a tub, minimum.
Nessey: GoodOldie Pawn comes along with Carric.
Nessey: Yoshi says Lady Caelesti wishes to have a bath.
Nessey: Nessey - with her pawn, me!
Nessey: GoodOldie says - you have questions about games, Shifter Sir?
Nessey: Shifty Carric - what are the rules for games of two?
Nessey: GoodOldie - that's a duel. It depends on how the people gaming feel about each other. If one or both are angry, then to the dealth.
Nessey: Or, if you are young and rash like the dragons who hang out here, then one or both of you will fall to the ground dead.
Nessey: Oldie - he says it doesn't usually involving using particular talents. It might be political. Might be through agents and pawns for political advantage.
Nessey: Carric - so it is okay to fight with nonlethal consequences.
Nessey: Oldie - I am of gamesmen cast and went to school for it, but no talent manifested, that is why I know what I know.
Nessey: Yoshi - do the duelers agree to the rules up front?
Nessey: Oldie - it depends on the people and whether they decide on rules or not.
Nessey: Caelesti - what if you just surrender?
Nessey: Oldie - for a show off game, you can do that, but your reputation would drop and you would be depised.
Nessey: Oldie - some talents are immune, such as Healers.
Nessey: Yoshi - what about the Great Games.
Nessey: Oldie - well those are wars between domains. They send their armies out to die and pawns too.
Nessey: After many deaths on both sides, one domain will surrender to the other.
Nessey: Yoshi asks what if a gameman has more talents than are known during a game?
Nessey: Oldie - someone else might challenge that person afterwards or during.
Nessey: Oldie - it is not acceptable to pretend to do other than your role.
Nessey: Caelesti - But I was labeled because I could fly and I can do more than fly.
Nessey: Oldie - but my Lady, despite how you were labeled, you have accepted the garb of an Armager.
Nessey: Caelesti - what if ican Fly and Beguile? Then what am I?
Nessey: Oldie, says they have some thousands named.
Nessey: On DM's list there are only 51.
Nessey: Nessey - Perhaps you need to be re-categorized?
Nessey: Yoshi - what do you recommend we do to be labeled better, GoodOldie?
Nessey: Nessey - what could we do to get our lords properly categorized?
Nessey: Yoshi - yes, we are visitors from Afar.
Nessey: GoodOldie - It is good to know that in the land of Afar they still have the same talents.
Nessey: Oldie - most people who can fly, that is their major thing. But there are undoubtedly combinations.
Nessey: (there are 11 base talents, 11 factoral combinations)
Nessey: GoodOldie - if you really don't know how you fit in this world, then stop pretending to be this or that and stop wearing those clothes.
Nessey: Caelesti - but I LIKE this outfit!!
Nessey: Yoshi - nevertheless....
Nessey: Caelesti - well, I could wear my Fey outfit.
Nessey: Mavis - you mean nothing?
Nessey: Caelesti - that's comfy too.
Nessey: GoodOldie says - well, you should not have asked for that clothings.
Nessey: Caelsti makes things move about the room.
Nessey: GoodOldie - says maybe you are a Sorcerer or an Effreet.
Nessey: Yoshi - explain Sorcerer?
Nessey: Oldie - they gather and hold power. They STORE power. They gather in heat and can give it to others or use it themselves. They do NOT fly.
Nessey: Oldie - an Effreet does not give power to others.
Nessey: Oldie - you might be an Effreet.
Nessey: Yoshi - I highly recommend you take those clothes off right now.
Nessey: Caelesti - who has turquoise hair in all the right places, takes off all her clothes immediately and throws them in a pile.
Nessey: GoodOldie's eyes pop out.
Nessey: Yoshi - I didn't mean right now.
Nessey: Yoshi - I have one more question, Oldie. The King has invited us to accompany him on a trip. Do you think there will be a game on that trip?
Nessey: Oldie - I don't think so. He is going to meet his future bride.
Nessey: Nessey - Oh, a wedding! How romantic.
Nessey: King Kelvin had 7 sons and our king is the youngest. When one after another got involved in games of two and died, he finally sent his youngest son to school, which protected him until he was prepared.
Nessey: Oldie - I am puzzled as to why you 3 are dressed in gamesmen garb, but don't think are gamesmen anymore. Perhaps you ARE an Effreet?
Nessey: Oldie rants a while.
Nessey: He says we ASKED for this.
Nessey: Carric asks if there is a power that enables one to call animals into being to help?
Nessey: Like a Pombie.
Nessey: Oldie - that's insane! Why would you want a Pombie.
Nessey: Nessey asks for leave. She doesn't want to see Oldie die of fright.
Carric rolls d20: [15] = 15
Nessey: Carric and Caelesti are set on showing off until the poor Pawn Oldie has a heart attack.
Nessey: Carric gets out his bag of tricks.
Nessey: Nessey - I doubt he will be impressed by a bag of weasels.
Nessey: Carric - pulls a cat out of the bag.
Nessey: Oldie says "Good slight of hand. You could earn a living that way. Come to think of it you are just an entertainer and not a gameman at all. I have not seen anything otherwise."
Nessey: Mavis has decided she is happy being a pawn.
Nessey: Carric and Caelesti have shown off and shown off and shown off and no one will now believe they are pawns.
Nessey: Oldie - if you are going to claim to be of gamemen clas you will have a label.
Nessey: Yoshi - what about talented people from other lands?
Nessey: Oldie we have NEVER had this problem.
Nessey: They are regular or rich pawns.
Nessey: Nessey and Yoshi argue about continuing to question.
Nessey: Yoshi says nothing is obvious to him and he wants to keep questioning.
Nessey: Yoshi - what will the King think of Caelesti and Carric if they stop wearing gamesmen outfits?
Nessey: Caelesti - says she will just say she is miscategorized.
Nessey: Oldie - that sounds reasonable, though I can't say what the King will think. He might not want you around then.
Nessey: Carric asks AGAIN if there is neutral gamesman outfit.
Nessey: AGAIN, we are told NO. All gamesmen have a label and all honor their label and all show their label by their costume at all times. So there!
Nessey: Mavis - once we get to Reevesbridge, we should all become
Nessey: Nessey - Caelesti, if you have more questions, please ask them.
Nessey: Caelesti - No, I don't. Really.
Nessey: Nessey - In this place and time, I am happy to be labeled a pawn.
Nessey: So, who of us are going back to pawn headquarters?
Nessey: yoshi - why do we have to go back?
Nessey: Nessey - Oh, good, can I share your bath with you, Caelesti?
Nessey: Caelesti - only if you scrubb my back,
Nessey: Nessey - okay.
Nessey: We go to Caelesti's room.
Nessey: Carric and Yoshi can share a tub, if they'd like? They do so, buy not in the tub at the same time. I suppose Carric goes first, since he is royal. He brings bathes his weasel so it is nice and clean.
Nessey: Gamesmen who have these powers, said Oldie, can do it all day long, BTW.
Nessey: Then he departs and lets us all bathe.
Nessey: Mavis is going to be a pawn right away.
Nessey: Carric and Caelesti put their gamesmen clothes back on after they bathe to their satisfaction.
Nessey: Caelesti WANTS to be in a duel.
Nessey: Carric will be a Shifter until we leave the King's entourage.
Nessey: Nessey to Caelesti - maybe you should ask for an Effreet outfit?
Nessey: Caelesti considers.
Mavis: Afrit
Nessey: Nessey - maybe you should ask to see the Afrit outfit and take the one you like the best?
Nessey: Caelesti - I think I will do that. That sounds kewl!
Nessey: We don't let Carric into our female bath, nor does Mavis.
Nessey: Carric feels discriminated agaist.
Nessey: as a Shifty, Shifter.
Nessey: Carric asks in the mornig if this is the day the King is traveling, cause Carric loves the King so much.
Nessey: A couple Dragons (shifting, flight, fire) are going too.
Nessey: They protect the King.
Nessey: We are also part of the entourage. We, the intriguing new visitors, with the King finding Caelesti especially intriguing.
Nessey: Nessey - perhaps you could become a concubine of the King, Caelesti.
Nessey: Nessey is very good at riding.
Nessey: Nessey is on her warhorse, Fanny Fey. Mavis rides Goldie the Mule.
Nessey: Caelesti and Carric are offered horses.
Nessey: Caelesti and Carric accept the loan of horses.
Nessey: Caelesti and Carric are allowed to trot up and talk to the King, who is being less formal.
Nessey: King says, I'm glad you decide to come with me to Reevesbridge.
Nessey: Caelesti is not wearing her Armager outfit. She is wearing Emerald Green of Gold?
Nessey: Caelesti chooses Hot Pink and Lavendar outfit.
Nessey: King raises his eyebrows.
Nessey: He says, "Ahh, Caelesti, I would have thought you would be flying along?"
Nessey: Caelesti - I enjoy riding horses too.
Nessey: King - you are certainly exotic.
Nessey: Caelesti - I think I was mislabeled.
Nessey: King - why?
Nessey: Caelesti - I can do more than fly. I didn't want to be perceived as cheating as I have more talents than flying.
Nessey: King - ahh, that is good.
Nessey: King - so your school did not identify your talent to you?
Nessey: Caelesti - I didn't go to school.
Nessey: King - Xammer is a school town. You should try to get assessed properly there.
Nessey: Caelesti - Until I am properly classified I will wear this outfit.
Nessey: King, yes, you will not be confused for anything I can think of. But anyway, Lady Caelesti, I am delighted you are accompanying me.
Nessey: King talks to Caelesti the rest of the day.
Nessey: We all trot along.
Nessey: We make camp at dusk.
Nessey: Days pass. King gets more and more friendly with Caelesti as we go.
Mavis: Leamer
Nessey: We enter Nut Lands
Nessey: We then enter Leamer.
Nessey: King wants to spend a few days in Leamer.
Nessey: We check into an Inn.
Nessey: There are wagons full of stuff carrying stuff. I mean pawns carrying stuff.
Nessey: We go to the Leamer Inn.
Nessey: The Inn Keeper greets us.
Nessey: Iseless?
Yoshi: IwIwez
Yoshi: Iwez
Nessey: His name is Iwez.
Nessey: And --
Caelesti: eyeless
Nessey: We are in the capitol of the Nut Lands.
Mavis: ausage grole
Nessey: We congregate in the tavern room for sausage gruel.
Nessey: Tavern Keeper tells us to vist the Grole farms.
Nessey: We are served slices of sausage as big around as one's thigh and half an inch thick.
Nessey: Pleasant nutty flavor.
Nessey: Iwez says they grown the best sausage groles here in the Capitol of Nut Land.
Nessey: Carric speaks of the Giant Groles in the chasm.
Nessey: These are smaller Groles.
Nessey: Worms.
Nessey: They are sausage Groles.
Nessey: He writes down introduction for Grole farmer, friend of his.
Nessey: Iwez advises we go there.
Nessey: Caelesti wants to sample them all.
Nessey: Iwez says they have the BEST here.
Nessey: Yoshi says we will appreciate the best after we have had others.
Nessey: Inn Keeper snubs Yoshi and talks to other guests.
Nessey: Both Caelesti and Yoshi insulted the Inn Keeper.
Nessey: Carric says, This is the best sausage Grole I have ever had.
Nessey: Keeper - everyone appreciates Sausage more after seeing how it is made.
Nessey: In the morning the King is sleeping late. We go to the friend's nut grove.
Nessey: A nut tree is like a hazel nut or acorn, but half buried in ground, 20 ft diameter and 20 ft tall, at largest nut.
Nessey: We see field of 10 ft diameter nuts.
Nessey: Farmer says over to the West they make houses and some make boats and a fellow to the south raises midgits and makes nut hats.
Nessey: I am speaking of the shells, of course.
Nessey: He leads us to a nut, of which a plug 2-ft diameter has been cut. He pulls it out. Some of his sons come up carrying baskets with iron bars.
Nessey: They put it down next to the nut. They reach in an pull out worms, 6 in in diameter and 6 ft long, out of metal container.
Nessey: They let them eat their way into the nut, 6 or 1 worms and then close up the plug. They will come back in a day and pull the worms out.
Nessey: They take us to another nut, in which worms have eaten for 2 days. That nut is hallow. They use hooks to pull out the sluggish worms, with great effort. They say, I present to you a sausage grole stuffed with nut.
Nessey: And all we have to do is this - a son wrestles worm to the ground, another chops of head witih a machette, they take it off to be smoked and preserved.
Nessey: Farmer - generally this enhances the sausage grole eating experience for everyone. You can see it does depend on the producer = the quality of the grole (worm) and preparation, etc.
Nessey: Farmer, Young Sirs and Ladies, I don't think this is false bragging, but I think I make the best sausage grole in 10 leagues.
Nessey: Yoshi - based on what we had last night, yours is the best we ever had.
Nessey: Farmer - do have lunch with us.
Nessey: Today is the best, even better than last night, as it is freshest.
Nessey: Carric - compliments it as the best.
Nessey: Farmer - Fact is, if you eat it on the Farm, fresh, where it is produced, that is the best.
Nessey: Carric - how long to grow a nut tree?
Nessey: Farmer - about 10 years. But we have lots and sell our sausages for a good price. And the nut wood is as hard as iron.
Nessey: Nessey - I would like to buy some shell, it might make a good sheild for me.
Nessey: Farmer - there is someone in town who could help you do that very thing.
Nessey: Carric - I might have armor made from this.
Nessey: Equivelent of Ironwood armor.
Nessey: Nessey and Carric are both interested.
Nessey: We take his recommendation and look up the armorer.
Nessey: We are back at the Inn first.
Nessey: We check on the King's schedule.
Nessey: He went riding off with a messenger with a worried expression on this face.
Nessey: He went just with messenger, not with body guards. Went in direction we came from.
Nessey: Yoshi - I say we don't worry about his worries until we have to worry about his worries.
Nessey: Yoshi - he has not taken us into his confidences, after all.
Nessey: So we visit the armorer.
Nessey: We can purchase ironwood armor.
Nessey: Nessey - i don't have any armor besides leather now and no bracers nor sheild.
Nessey: This could be an opportunity for me.
Nessey: Armor is not heavy. Very light.
Nessey: Barbarians can do medium.
Nessey: We can do this offline.
Nessey: Must do special fiddly measuring in the chest area, by the store keeper and do a special order.
Nessey: In the evening, the King comes riding back by himself.
Mavis rolls Mavis Spot (d20 + 16): [19 + 16] = 35
Caelesti rolls Skill (Spot) (d20 - 1 + 2): [1 - 1 + 2] = 2
Carric rolls Spot (d20 + 13): [2 + 13] = 15
Nessey rolls Nes - Spot (d20 + : [18 + 8] = 26
Yoshi rolls Sk:Spot (d20 + 10 + 4): [11 + 10 + 4] = 25
Nessey: Nessey, Yoshi and Mavis are suspicious. He looks sickly.
Nessey: He looks physically ill somehow.
Nessey: We tell Carric and rest.
Carric rolls Heal (d20 + 6): [17 + 6] = 23
Nessey: Carric does a heal check, visual assessment.
Nessey: King Kelvin the II, or whatever, looks saggy featured. Skin doesn't look quite right.
Nessey: Carric - Your Majesty, do you feel alright?
Nessey: King - I feel fine.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Sense Motive (d20 + 11 + 4 + 5): [14 + 11 + 4 + 5] = 34
Nessey: Carric - you look a little sick.
Nessey: King - I am just fine.
Nessey: What would a Shifter know about health.
Nessey: Mavis is suspicious. King is not behaving like himself.
Nessey: Yoshi also thinks he might be a double.
Nessey rolls Nes - Sense Motive (d20 + 4): [7 + 4] = 11
Nessey: Nessey thinks the King is in a bad mood.
Nessey: KIing says, well thank you for your concern. I am going back to my rooms. He does not pay any special attention to Caelesti. this makes us ALL suspicious.
Nessey: Carric shares his suspicions. Mavis and Yoshi say "That's not the King."
Nessey: Caelesti - how can you tell?
Nessey: Yoshi - He is not acting right.
Nessey: M avis - trust my Demon-like instincts.
Nessey: Carric doesn't feel he is impressive like before. Carric thinks he might be a Shifter.
Nessey: Nessey - what should we do if he is?
Nessey: Yoshi - we should be wary.
Nessey: Nessey - we could tell the others in the party.
Nessey: Yoshi - and tell them what? They won't believe us.
Nessey: Nessey - they must know this kind of thing happens.
Nessey: Yoshi - maybe this is part of the real King's plan.
Nessey: Mavis - but what if the imposter is NOT of the King's desire?
Nessey: Yoshi - we have no evidence.
Nessey: Carric - how can we find out?
Nessey: Yoshi - I will pray for a dream.
Nessey: Nessey - well, I think I should talk to the dragons.
Nessey: Yoshi - what if he did this on purpose.
Nessey: Nessey - I don't think so.
Nessey: Yoshi - but what if he wants this?
Nessey: Mavis - but what if he is in trouble?
Nessey: Carric - we should engage him in talk and try to sense his thought and motives, for those of us who can.
Nessey: Gamesmens class = 3 dragons. Then lots of pawns.
Nessey: We are 4 days away from the King's kingdom, by foot or horse.
Nessey: It is early evening.
Nessey: Yoshi says to do nothing tonight.
Nessey: The King has his own room.
Nessey: His dragons have theit own rooms.
Nessey: The pawns are sleeping in pawns quarters.
Nessey: Yoshi stays with ??
Nessey: Nessey - is there someway we could get into his quarters and spy on him tonight?
Nessey: Nessey - I would like to be able to sneak out and keep watch somehow also.
Nessey: Carric - I can change into a snake.
Nessey: Yoshi - he might wack you.
Nessey: Yoshi - how about a mongoose?
Nessey: Nessey - how about a weasel?
Nessey: Caelesti - or a rat?
Nessey: Carric - only a dire rat.
Nessey: Nessey - how about an otter?
Nessey: Carric - I otter do what?
Nessey: Carric - I can do a dog.
Nessey: Nessey - could you do a puppy.
Nessey: Nessey - well, I think Caelesti should present you, as dog, as a present to the King.
Nessey: Carric - I can be an owl or an eagle?
Nessey: Yoshi - owls are nice and quiet at night.
Nessey: Carric - But, I can do something else!
Nessey: Nessey - what? what?
Mavis: John ashcroft eagle soar
Nessey: google it later
Nessey: Utube video
Nessey: Carric, my other idea, given some of my new found abilities, if i can find or make a natural pool of water and use a piece of clothing from the King, I could sry the actual King and see what he is doing.
Nessey: Yoshi - how can we get his clothing?
Nessey: Nessey - Caelestic could charm him out of it.
Nessey: Caelesti, me and Mavis could go do some sneaking in the King's quarters.
Nessey: Carric - we could find out which pawn combs the king's hair
Nessey: Nessey - or washes his clothes.
Nessey: Yoshi - we might find a hair on his clothes that are being washed.
Nessey: Carric - or get a body part.
Nessey: Caelesti - I think it is too late for that.
Nessey: Carric - we need someone good at beguiling.
Nessey: Mavis, - damn, who could we get to do that, Caelesti?
Nessey: Caelesti - I might charm a pawn.
Nessey: Caelesti had not noticed the pawns, only the King.
Nessey: Carric - maybe there is some of the King' s hair on Caelesti?
Nessey: Carric - how about the King's horse?
Nessey: Yoshi - we don't need to scy the King's horse?
Nessey: Carric - the horse is the King's possession, we might use it instead of hair.
Nessey: Yoshi - Caelesti could get the King's hair, except this is not the real King and he is not interested in Caelesti.
Nessey: Cae - If i were kidnapped, I could come back with a mule named Fanny the Barbarian Crusher.
Nessey: Nessey - sigh.
Nessey: Yoshi - so which horse do we scry?
Nessey: Yoshi - Can you visit the King's window as an owl tonight?
Nessey: Caelesti - maybe the owl can grab the King's comb. But then his pawn might get into trouble.
Nessey: Yoshi - Me or Mavis must talk to the pawns about inspecting the King's garments.
Nessey: Yoshi - I volunteer Mavis.
Nessey: Or will they believe you are a pawn.
Nessey: Nessey - I could do it.
Nessey: Yoshi - could you be effective?
Nessey: Nessey - i just keep talking until I get what I want.
Nessey: Are we setting up watches?
Nessey: Yoshi - no, none of us are sleeping and Nessey, you are going to stay with the pawns tonight anyway.
Nessey: Carric turns into an owl,
Nessey: Carric perches on King's window and listens and looks for mice, I mean Kings.
Nessey: Carric hears something creeping under the King's bed. A snack. Makes it hard to concentrate.
Nessey: King still looks ill, when sleeping.
Nessey: There are two mice under the bed now.
Nessey: Sister of first mouse. Also tastey.
Nessey: Carric/owl hangs out there and eventually eats the mouse that comes creeping out from under the bed.
Carric rolls Save/Will (d20 + : [10 + 8] = 18
Nessey: He resists, with effort.
Nessey: Actually.
Nessey: Carric owl looks for a comb or small piece of clothing.
Nessey: There is a comb lying on a night table.
Nessey: Carric/owl flies in silently and takes the comb and flies out.
Nessey: +17 to move silently.
Nessey: Carric changes back into Carric on the ground and returns to his room at the Inn.
Nessey: Nessey blathers on and on about her dream of touching the King's clothes. Pawn female friend says Nessey can wash clothes if she stops talking.
Nessey: Nessey slips a hairy garment into her bodice. She washes the rest.
Nessey: The pawn friend drinks ale and stares into the fire.
Nessey: Yoshi attempts to have a dream.
Nessey: Yoshi falls asleep.
Nessey: He succeeds in havig a dream.
Nessey: Dreams of a regale looking man riding on a horse. That man's face mutates. The man shrinks within his clothing.
Nessey: The man rides back on his horse completely shriveled and shrunken in same clothes he was wearing before. No one sees any difference. Yoshi is trying to wake up and tell someone. No one will listen.
Nessey: He is distorted and changed and no one else, besides Yoshi, can tell it happened.
Nessey: Yoshi makes a Will save.
Yoshi rolls Atk:Base (d20 + 6): [19 + 6] = 25
Yoshi rolls Ability:Wisdom (d20 + 4): [18 + 4] = 22
Nessey: Wisdom check, actually.
Nessey: He wakes up and says this is significant dream. He knows King is an imposter.
Nessey: Yoshi recalls shriveled creature feels evil.
Nessey: King looked distressed, not intentional, when shriveled up and replaced.
Nessey: Yoshi interprets he was replaced.
Nessey: In the morning, he tells us all, including Mavis that King was replaced against his will.
Nessey: Nessey shows the King's garment, which she no longer has in her bodice.
Nessey: Carric's attention goes briefly to Nessey's breasts.
Nessey: Carric needs to wait until noon time and wants to find a nature, not urine, pool of water to scry.
Nessey: Nessey needs to send Brianna her stats for next level.
Nessey: Nessey is still at lower level.
Nessey: Yoshi stays near the King's rooms.
Nessey: King comes out and doesn't feel talkative, except a bit with his dragons. He eats his breakfast.
Nessey: Yoshi watches dragons carefully.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Sense Motive (d20 + 11 + 4 + 5): [11 + 11 + 4 + 5] = 31
Nessey: Dragons didn't quite get reactio they expected.
Nessey: They think the King is being touchy.
Nessey rolls Nes - Sense Motive (d20 + 4): [18 + 4] = 22
Nessey: Nessey doesn't notice this.
Nessey: She doesn't look.
Nessey: Carric is watching Nessey's bodice.
Nessey: Caelesti is eating.
Nessey: Nessey - so, Carric, what should I do with this King's garment?
Nessey: Carric - give it to me.
Nessey: Nessey does so.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Search (d20 + 0): [17] = 17
Nessey: Carric searches for hairs.
Nessey: Carric - this garment was not worn by the King yesterday, correct?
Carric rolls Search (d20 + 3): [6 + 3] = 9
Nessey: Nessey - I don't know. But it was the hairest I could find.
Mavis rolls Mavis Search (d20 + 10): [5 + 10] = 15
Nessey rolls Nes - Search (d20 + 3): [10 + 3] = 13
Mavis rolls Mavis Search (d20 + 10): [14 + 10] = 24
Nessey: Mavis finds hairs on both clothing and comb.
Nessey: Mavis says they looks similar - the hairs are same on both comb and cloth.
Nessey: Carric wants the inner most hair.
Nessey: The pubic comb or the nose comb?
Nessey: Carric is scrying not eating, so it matters not.
Nessey: Carric prays at noon for a scry.
Nessey: Belanus says, Okay, you are doing my will in general, and if you think a scry is what you need, then a scry you shall have.
Nessey: Carric - you are the greatest.
Nessey: Belanus - well, duh.
Nessey: Belanus - but keep it up. I don't get tired of hearing it.
Nessey: Carric finds a pool and leads us there.
Nessey: Yoshi brings his trunks.
Nessey: Caelesti joins us too.
Nessey: Carric does a DC of 17.
Nessey: Carric actually gets bonuses.
Mavis rolls d20: [16] = 16
Nessey: Carric makes it and looks at unconscious King, lying in a restricted space, his wrists are tied.
Nessey: he is in a wagon or something.
Nessey: Gypsy wagon.
Nessey: Wagon does not appear to be moving.
Nessey: Enclosed wagon with no windows.
Nessey: Carric hears --??
Nessey: Nothing.
Nessey: Can't smell in a scry.
Nessey: Carric looks at the King for 7 mintues to make sure he is breathing.
Mavis rolls d100: [12] = 12
Nessey: He appears to be breathing.
Nessey: No one comes and goes.
Nessey: He is lying on a straw pallet on what looks to be the inside of a gypsy wagon.
Nessey: There is a door at one end.
Nessey: Nessey - we should take out the imposter and then tell everyone the King is missing and then they will go looking for him.
Nessey: Yoshi - too risky.
Nessey: Caelesti - we could move off on our own.
Nessey: Carric - head north.
Nessey: Yoshi - try to retrace his steps?
Nessey: Nessey - we could send Tan'Kuran out to look for a gypsy wagon.
Nessey: Yoshi - now THAT is not a bad idea.
Nessey: Carric - we should consider the time the King was away.
Nessey: Yoshi - I don't know if that is accurate enough. But it is likely he would go along or near the road. Although this wagon has had a day or more to move.
Nessey: Yoshi - that increases the potential range.
Nessey: Nessey - but the wagon is not moving now.
Nessey: Nessey - I think we should talk to the dragons.
Nessey: Yoshi - I was thinking so too. Find out about current politics.
Nessey: Yoshi - do we know who the messenger is?
Nessey: Carric - he has not returned.
Nessey: Carric - perhaps we can search for the messenger. He might be unwitting.
Nessey: Yoshi - he might be dead.
Nessey: Caelesti - sometimes people kill the messenger.
Nessey: Mavis - with flint arrow heads or wood.
Nessey: Carric - it was never a safe profession.
Nessey: Carric sends Tan'Kuran to fly north and scout for gypsy wagons.
Nessey: Up to half day's journey north, horse journey.
Nessey: Light horse can do 48 miles in a day.
Nessey: with load 150 to 400 pounds
Nessey: King could have gotten 16 miles in 1/2 day with a load.
Nessey: Yoshi suggest it takes 4 hours to Tan'Kuran to fly it.
Nessey: Yoshi we could send Eagle twice as far as horse in half a day to make sure.
Nessey: We pause for tea and grole before talking to the dragons next time.
Nessey: We talk to dragons now.
Nessey rolls Nes - Diplomacy (d20 + 9): [7 + 9] = 16
Yoshi rolls Sk:Sense Motive (d20 + 11 + 4 + 5): [18 + 11 + 4 + 5] = 38
Nessey: nessey asks about the King's domain.
Nessey: And what other are around here?
Nessey: Nessey asks about rival.
Nessey: Nessey asks about border and enemies.
Nessey: Draogons claim no enemies.
Nessey: Dragons say woman from far SW, King from far NE.
Nessey: Dragons say don't know King's alliances or enemies.
Nessey: Nessey then who do you protect from?
Nessey: Dragons - from people along the road.
Nessey rolls Nes - Diplomacy (d20 + 9): [8 + 9] = 17
Nessey: Nessey succeeds in upsetting one of the demons about shifters and Carric.
Nessey: Demon agrees King seems ill.
Nessey: Dragons not demons.
Nessey: Nessey suggests a Healer.
Nessey: Nessey - maybe you should keep Shifter where you can see him.
Nessey: Dragon thanks Nessey.
Nessey: Dragon talks to his friend.
Nessey: They go over and talk to Carric.
Nessey: They ask Carric what he has done to the King.
Nessey: Carric says he thinks the King wanted a Shifter to come along because he is concerned because it takes a Shifter sometimes to notice a Shifter.
Nessey: Carric you may have noticed the King does not seem himself since he came back from his ride.
Nessey: Dragons, - yes?
Nessey: Carric - is that person the King or is it another Shifter?
Nessey: They talk to each other.
Nessey: The dragons.
Nessey: One says - you can't trust Shifters. The other says he is not Shifting (Carric)
Nessey: The Smart one turns to Carric - I talked to the King and he seemed short tempered and was strange. We were boys growing together and known each other for decades.
Nessey: Carric suggests obvious questions be put to the King, based on boyhood knowledge.
Nessey: Dragons - but we can't force ourselves on the King.
Nessey: Caelesti comes over and joins in. You should introduce yourself. If he doesn't know you, then...
Nessey: Dragons say no, doesn't make sense.
Nessey: Carric - but you could say something the King would obviously know like a food he doesn't like. Like broccoli.
Nessey: The dumb Dragon pokes the smart dragon, says - we would never have thought of this - I think this Shifter is trying to convince us something is up with this Shifter.
Nessey: Smart Dragon looks at dumb friend and at Carric and back and forth and says all is confusing. To Carric - do you believe the King is not really the King?
Nessey: Carric - yes! And you would know it better than anyone else.
Nessey: Dumb Dragon says and it takes a Shifter to know a Shifter.
Nessey: Carric - you are smart.
Nessey: DumbD - says so it is your friend, another Shifter.
Nessey: Carric - no, we Shifters have no Shifter friends.
Nessey: DumbD - so you are an enemy?
Nessey: Carric - only of other Shifters.
Carric rolls d20: [12] = 12
Nessey: Carric gets 15 bluff.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Diplomacy (d20 + 0): [3] = 3
Yoshi rolls Sk:Bluff (d20 + 0): [6] = 6
Carric rolls Diplomacy (d20 + 5): [19 + 5] = 24
Nessey: Carric does a Diplomacy.
Mavis rolls d20: [4] = 4
Nessey: DumbD says he thinks Carric is absolutely right! Maybe the King is not the King.
Nessey: Caelesti - then the King could be somewhere else and in trouble.
Nessey: Tan'Kuran travels north and discovers a gypsy wagon a couple hour north, parked along side the road.
Nessey: Two hours before dark, Tan'Kuran returns.
Nessey: yoshi, Mavis and Nessey might go to check out the wagon.
Nessey: mavis wants Nessey to stay behind.
Nessey: Yoshi and Mavis are more quiet.
Nessey: They want to go alone.
Nessey: We break.
